Being connected to others is associated with increased psychological wellbeing. Connect with people around, your family, friends, neighbours, people you meet at work, school or at the shops. Think of these social relationships as important parts of your life and spend time developing them. Building these relationships will support and strengthen you every day.
Be Active is one of the 5 Ways To Wellbeing. Being active can increase your psychological wellbeing. Keep your mind and body active; step outside your house, go for a walk or run, play a sport, dance, ride a bike, or do some gardening. Do something you enjoy and do it regularly. Exercising makes you feel good and helps to clear your mind!
Learning new things is associated with higher levels of emotional and psychological well-being. Keep Learning is also one of the 5 Ways To Wellbeing. Try something new, rediscover an old interest, sign up for a new course, take on a different responsibility at work, fix a bike, or learn to play an instrument or how to cook your favourite food. Set a challenge you will enjoy achieving. Learning new things will make you more confident, and it’s fun.
Being aware is associated with increased psychological and emotional wellbeing. Be Aware is also one of the 5 Ways To Wellbeing. Be Aware of the world around you: take notice of what you are feeling, and be aware of new sights, smells, and sounds as you do your daily activities. Try it as you walk, eat lunch or wait for a bus. Focusing on the ‘here and now’ can help you feel calm and reduce stress.
Helping others is associated with higher levels of psychological and emotional wellbeing. It is also one of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing. Do something nice for a friend, or a stranger. Thank someone, smile, volunteer your time, or join a community group. Look out, as well as in - seeing yourself, and your happiness, linked to the wider community can be incredibly rewarding and creates connections with the people around you.
